The immediate past governor of Abia State and current senator
representing Abia Central in the Senate, Theodore Orji, has denied
endorsing any candidate in the forthcoming local government elections in
Abia State.
Orji, who made the disclosure in a statement issued
to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday and signed by his Media Adviser and
Legislative Aide, Eddie Onuzuruike, said as he has done before during
the last general elections, he still respects people’s right to choose
their leaders.
“It has come to our notice that some people in our
great party the PDP have relapsed into the complacency of name dropping
and false claims in the ongoing LGA primary elections asserting that
Senator T A Orji, Ochendo has endorsed them as the chosen candidates.
“Let it be noted that he has not endorsed anybody in any of the LGAs,
be they male or female in Abia State. As exemplified in the
governorship elections of 2015, he is a man of equity, freedom of choice
and justice. He believes in exercising full democratic principles in
all its ramifications. Candidates should work hard to sell themselves to
the people they intend to serve.
“He advises all to take
seriously the slogan of the party which is Power to The People. Let the
people decide who will serve them,” the statement added.
The
chairmanship and councillorship elections will hold in the 17 local
government areas and 292 electoral wards of the state on Saturday,
December 17, 2016 as announced by the Abia State Independent Electoral
Commission (ABSIEC).
