JTF Breaks Into militants’ camp in Bayelsa, kills kingpin

The Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Delta Safe, says it has busted a militants’ camp in Bayelsa State, killing a suspected notorious militant.

The killed militant, whose name was given only as Edoboy, was said to be one of the notorious kingpins on the wanted list of security agencies that had allegedly been terrorising innocent members of the Sand-sand Fishing Camp in Bayelsa.

The Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, ODS, Lt. Col. Olaolu Dauda, said in a statement on Wednesday that troops in conjunction with own special forces conducted patrols in the area.
He said, “The troops in conjunction with special forces conducted patrols in Sand-sand fishing camp in Bayelsa State and came upon suspected militants who had regrouped to resuscitate a camp earlier destroyed.

“Our troops engaged the suspected militants and killed one of them popularly called Edoboy. He was one of the notorious kingpins on the wanted list of security agencies who had been terrorising innocent members of the communities in the area.”
Dauda also said the troops of Sector 2 in the state, while on routine patrol, encountered and engaged another group of suspected sea robbers.

He said during the operation, one suspect, popularly known as Stainless Gobo, was killed, while others escaped with various degrees of injuries towards Lobia community in the state.
The spokesman said the killed suspected sea robber was believed to be affiliated to a wanted militant called VIP.

Dauda noted that one AK 47, two magazines, 29 rounds of 7.62 milimeter special, 10 empty cases, seven charms, two head warmers and a cutlass were recovered from the scene.
He also said that the JTF clashed with militants believed to be members of the Niger Delta Avengers in the creeks of Delta State.

He said the troops encountered the militants and engaged them in a gun duel at the Batan-Egwa creeks in Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state.
He said the operatives were reportedly deployed in an outpost of the Nigeria Gas Company to protect the facilities of the firm when they saw two 200 horsepower boats conveying the militants.
The JMCC coordinator stated, “They came in 200 horsepower speedboat but were subsequently engaged and repelled them. Effort is ongoing to apprehend the criminals.
“However, the Troops at Batan reported a loud sound suspected to be an explosion.”
