Forty-six years after cessation of hostility in the Nigeria/ Biafra
civil war, Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of
Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday dismissed the “No Victor and No Vanquished
policy.”
It also described the Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and
Reconstruction, RRR, of the then Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon as
ruse deceitfully contrived to deepen the underdevelopment of the Niger
Delta region.
The factional movement therefore carpeted leaders and elders of the
region for working in concert with the Northern caliphate to further
pauperise the people of the region for their own selfish interest.
MASSOB leader, Solomon Oduchukwu, who spoke to newsmen yesterday in
Owerri, the Imo State capital through the National Director of
Information, Sunday Okereafor, dismissed the Federal Government’s recent
promise to clean up Ogoni land and also to reconstruct the devastated
Niger Delta region as a wild goose chase.
According to him, it is ridiculous and ironical for President
Muhammadu Buhari to now profess his intention to remedy the decay in the
devastated oil bearing region amidst the biting recession, adding that
in the first instance Ogoni land was not the only place in need of
rehabilitation.
“Is Ogoni land, the only land devastated during the civil war? Why
are they waking up from their slumber now, 46 years after the war had
ended? And why have they failed to implement the “No victor, No
vanquished policy” as well as the 3Rs of reconciliation, rehabilitation
and reconstruction?” Oduchukwu, who derided leaders of the region for
sabotaging their people through their recent visit to Abuja for a
16-point agenda, including the granting of oil blocks, argued that
agitation for oil blocks in place of the freedom and fundamental human
rights of the people is nothing but a misplacement of priority.
Dismissing the Niger Delta elders as mere paid contractors and
willing tools of the Northern caliphate, Oduchukwu who is from the
region, urged youths to rise up in defence of their rights and freedom
from the suffocating claws of the Northern caliphate.
“The youths should rise up and defend their right because their land
is being destroyed and polluted by the global oil giants in
collaboration with the Federal Government. Ikwerre, Ogoni and the entire
Igbo land are being polluted.
“Therefore, the so called elders who led the delegation to Abuja are
nothing but a bundle of self-centred individuals who do not mean well
for the Niger Delta
region but are only interested in obtaining oil blocks for themselves
because they see the oil in the region as their personal wealth.
“MASSOB is therefore telling the whole world that the elders of South
East and South-South are selfish and cannot represent us because they
are not our leaders and therefore cannot lead us,” he said.
