A Kano State magistrates’ court on Thursday cleared five suspects who allegedly killed an Imo State-indigene, Bridget Agbahime, a trader resident in Kano.
Dauda Ahmed, Abdulmumeen Mustafa, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdullahi, the suspectswere taken to court on a four-count charge of allegedly stirring disturbance, culpable homicide, joint act and mischief.Agbahime, was brutally killed on June 2, in Kofar Wambai Market in Kano over alleged blasphemy, and her head severed from her body and paraded in the market.
However, the Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, discharged and acquitted the five suspects on the basis of the instruction by the attorney-general of Kano State.
Rabiu Yusuf, principal state counsel, standing in for the attorney-general of Kano State, had told the court that “we received the case diary from the police on June 8. Having gone through the case diary, the attorney- general of Kano State evaluated the facts in accordance with sections 130 and 150 of the criminal procedure code.
“The legal advice presented to the court, dated June 24, states that there is no case to answer as the suspects are all innocent and orders the court to discharge all the suspects.”
